Our Mission

Fantasy sports have been around for generations, but we must pass a proposition this November 6th to legalize, regulate and ultimately tax fantasy sports.

Why? Because the state of Louisiana currently bans sports fans from playing all the fantasy sports contest millions love. We think most in our state would agree: the government shouldn't tell Louisianans how they can and can't spend their own hard-earned money, including on fantasy sports.

That’s at the root of our fight for fairness for fantasy sports in Louisiana. Forty-one other states already allow all fantasy sports and many states are now bringing in tax revenue from fantasy sports, but Louisiana is not.

This ballot proposition is needed to allow Louisiana sports fans to play fantasy sports, and allow the state to get its fair share of the revenue by bringing in new tax dollars.

Join us and Vote Yes on November 6th!

WHAT IS ON
THE BALLOT?

In the spring of 2018, the Louisiana Legislature passed HB 484, sponsored by Representative Kirk Talbot, authorizing a statewide, but parish-by-parish proposition, to legalize fantasy sports contests. As a parish-by-parish proposition, only people in parishes that vote ‘yes’ will be able to play fantasy sports like the rest of the country. If your parish votes against it, you will not be allowed to play.

The language will read:  Shall fantasy sports contests be permitted in the parish of ______?

WHY SHOULD
I VOTE YES?

Adults should be able to spend their own money as they see fit, including on fantasy sports, setting their own budgets and accepting responsibility for their actions, win or lose. This is about personal responsibility and getting government out of our everyday lives.

Additionally, it’s about fairness. Thousands of Louisiana residents are playing fantasy sports every day, yet Louisiana does not receive any tax revenue for that activity. Many states across the country allow all fantasy sports and are now getting that revenue. This law will clarify the legal status of fantasy sports and will ensure that they are taxed moving forward.

At a time when we desperately need to invest in local communities, it is irresponsible that Louisiana is failing to capitalize on revenue from the fantasy sports that are so popular because millions of sports fans love to play.

We should end the ban on fantasy sports so we can make critical new investments in early childhood education or in our roads and bridges.

HOW DO
FANTASY SPORTS CONTESTS WORK?

Fantasy sports contests are games of skill wherein participants choose a lineup of professional athletes for their teams and compete against others based on statistics generated by the athletes' real-game performance.

IS FANTASY SPORTS ACTUALLY GAMBLING?

No. Fantasy sports are a games of skill. Additionally, you do not play against the “house” like you do in a casino or video poker game. You can compete against family, friends and colleagues, and your scores are based on your player selections and their performance only.

HOW MUCH REVENUE WILL IT RAISE?

Until the proposition passes in a single parish, the State’s Gaming Control Board cannot set rules, regulations or tax rates. In a State where we desperately need new streams of revenue, it is irresponsible that Louisiana is failing to collect taxes on fantasy sports, which is already legal in 41 other states.

WHAT IS “FAIRNESS FOR FANTASY SPORTS LOUISIANA”?

Fairness for Fantasy Sports Louisiana was created by Louisiana residents and avid sports fans to educate voters on the importance of legalizing and taxing fantasy sports contests. We are a 501(c)(4) organization.
